Taxonomy
Lucasuchus was named by Long and Murry (1995). Its type is Lucasuchus hunti.

It was synonymized subjectively with Longosuchus by Heckert and Lucas (1999).

It was assigned to Stagonolepididae by Long and Murry (1995); to Desmatosuchinae by Parker (2007) and Parker and Martz (2010); and to Desmatosuchini by Parker (2016).
