Hanzawaia was named by Asano (1944) [Sepkoski's age data: T Ol-u R]. It is extant.

It was assigned to Discorbinae by Bertels (1964); to Anomalinidae by Wienrich (1997); to Foraminiferida by Sepkoski (2002); to Gavelinellidae by Kiessling (2003); and to Gavelinellinae by Asano (1944), Asano (1944) and Margerel (2012).
