Taxonomy
Machaeroprosopus andersoni was named by Mehl (1922). Its type specimen is CFMNH 396, a skull, and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Santa Rosa area, which is in a Norian terrestrial horizon in the Bull Canyon Formation of New Mexico. It is the type species of Machaeroprosopus.
It was synonymized subjectively with Arribasuchus buceros by Long and Murry (1995).
