Peytoia nathorsti was named by Walcott (1911). Its type specimen is USNM 57538 and is a compression preserving soft parts. It is the type species of Peytoia.

Synonyms
  • Laggania cambria was named by Walcott (1911). Its type specimen is USNM 57555, an other (part and counterpart of a medusoid overlain on a sponge), and it is a compression preserving soft parts. It is the type species of Laggania.

    It was synonymized subjectively with Peytoia nathorsti by Conway Morris (1978).
