Helodermoides tuberculatus

Taxonomy
Helodermoides tuberculatus was named by Douglass (1903). Its type specimen is C.M. No. 707, a partial skull (partial skull and mandible), and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Pipestone Springs, which is in a Chadronian terrestrial claystone in the Renova Formation of Montana.

It was recombined as Glyptosaurus tuberculatus by Gilmore (1928) and Hay (1930).

Synonyms
  • Glyptosaurus montanus was named by Douglass (1908). Its type specimen is CM 1050 (nearly complete skull and lower jaws, partial limb and phalangeal bones) and is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is McCarty's Mountain, which is in a Chadronian wet floodplain tuff in the Chadron Formation of Montana.

    It was synonymized subjectively with Helodermoides tuberculatus by Sullivan (1979) and Maddox and Wall (1998).
  • Glyptosaurus giganteus was named by Gilmore (1928). Its type specimen is CM 1471, a partial skull (greater portion of frontal region of skull, covered with osseous dermal scutes), and it is a 3D body fossil.

    It was synonymized subjectively with Helodermoides tuberculatus by Sullivan (1979) and Maddox and Wall (1998).
