Eocyrtosymbole was named by Pillet (1972) [Sepkoski's age data: D Emsi-l Sepkoski's reference number: 1106]. It is not extant. Its type is Eocyrtosymbole magnifica.

It was assigned to Lacunoporaspinae by Pillet (1972); to Proetida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Proetidae by Jell and Adrain (2002).
