Thalabaria was named by Engel and Morris (1989) [Sepkoski's age data: C Vise-l Sepkoski's reference number: 895]. Its type is Cyrtoproetus planus.

It was assigned to Weaniinae by Engel and Morris (1989); to Proetidae by Jell and Adrain (2002); and to Proetida by Sepkoski (2002).

B. A. Engel and L. N. Morris 1989An isopygous genus of the Weaniinae in which the axis is gently domed and the pleural regions exceptionally fiat. Relief on the cephalon and pygidium subdued except in the middle of the axis. Anterior border inflated in front of the glabella. Pygidial ribs becoming obsolete laterally and posteriorly; anterior segment bands narrower (tr.) and lower that the posterior segment bands but distinct on the anterior of the pygidium.
