Leanchoilia was named by Walcott (1912) [Sepkoski's age data: Cm mMid-u Sepkoski's reference number: 1]. It is the type genus of Leanchoiliidae.
It was assigned to Arthropoda by Sepkoski (2002) and Bambach et al. (2007); to Arachnomorpha by Briggs et al. (2008); and to Leanchoiliidae by Haug et al. (2012), Lerosey-Aubril et al. (2020) and Lan et al. (2021).
