Canadaspis was named by Novozhilov in Orlov (1960) [Sepkoski's age data: Cm mMid-l Cm mMid-u Sepkoski's reference number: 883].

It was assigned to Canadaspidida by Sepkoski (2002); to Canadaspididae by Briggs et al. (2008); to Arthropoda by Bambach et al. (2007) and Caron and Jackson (2008); and to Hymenostraca by Hegna et al. (2020).
