Taxonomy
Serica was named by MacLeay (1819). It is extant. It is the type genus of Sericidae, Sericina.

It was assigned to Scarabaeidae by Wickham (1912) and Miller et al. (1981); to Sericinae by Krell (2000); and to Sericina by Bouchard et al. (2011).
