Pygmaeoseistron was named by Patterson and Richardson (1988) [A genus of Lageninae comprised of species that have a smooth or finely hispid imperforate wall, a sub-globular test, a circular aperture terminal to a narrow neck, and no entosolenian tube]. It is extant.

It was assigned to Foraminiferida by Sepkoski (2002).
