Taxonomy
Cricosaurus grandis was named by Wagner (1858). Its type specimen is BSPG AS VI 1, a skull (complete skull with mandible), and it is a 3D body fossil.
It was recombined as Metriorhynchus grandis by Lydekker (1888); it was recombined as Geosaurus grandis by Perrier (1928), Young and Andrade (2009), Bronzati et al. (2012), Young et al. (2013) and Parrilla-Bel and Canudo (2015).
