Discussion

The type and many of the referred specimens were earlier incorrectly referred to Oxyclaenus cuspidatus by Matthew (1897) and several following workers (e.g., Matthew, 1937; Kondrashov and Lucas, 2004).

Taxonomy
Carcinodon olearyi was named by Williamson and Carr (2007). Its type specimen is AMNH 799, a maxilla (left partial maxilla with M1-2), and it is a 3D body fossil.
