Acyon myctoderos

Taxonomy
Acyon myctoderos was named by Forasiepi et al. (2006). Its type specimen is MNHN-Bol-V-003668, a skull (skull with associated lower jaws and post crania), and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Quebrada Honda, which is in a Laventan fluvial claystone/siliciclastic in Bolivia.

Forasiepi et al. 2006Largest species of the genus (A. myctoderos ap- proximately 5% larger than A. tricuspidatus, based on measure- ments of the dentition; Table 1; Marshall, 1981:Table 25) and largest know hathliacynid; differs from A. tricuspidatus (Cabrera, 1927:fig. 6) in having longer diastemata among premolars; p2 comparatively more robust and with a better-developed poste- rior cusp; less-developed anterobasal cingulum on lower molars; hypoconulid less salient posteriorly and more vertically oriented on m1–m3; hypoconids larger, at least on m2.
