Ericipites was named by Wodehouse (1933). It is considered to be a form taxon. Its type is Ericipites annulatus.

It was assigned to Magnoliopsida by Wodehouse (1933); to Ericaceae by Vallati et al. (2020), Vera et al. (2022), De Benedetti et al. (2023) and Huang et al. (2023); and to Ericales by Perez Loinaze et al. (2023).
