Alouatta mauroi

Mammalia - Primates - Atelidae

Taxonomy
Alouatta mauroi was named by Tejedor et al. (2008) [Diagnosis: Alouatta mauroi differs from the remaining extant species of Alouatta mainly because of the larger dimensions of P2, nearly 1/3 larger than the mean value of A. palliata and A. pigra (the largest species of the genus), and because of the larger size of P2 when compared with other upper premolars, as well as for the maximum width of the alveolus in the upper canine, larger than in all extant species by nearly 1/3 in size. Width and length in P4 and M2 is larger than the average for extant species of Alouatta. This is the species of the genus showing the largest proportional size in relation to the cranium.]. Its type specimen is MCL 7323, a partial skull, and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Gruta dos Brejoes, which is in a Pleistocene/Holocene terrestrial horizon in Brazil.
