Taxonomy
Marmosa contrerasi was named by Mones (1980). Its type specimen is SPV-FHC No 6-XI-66-156, a mandible, and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Barrancas de Monte Hermoso, which is in a Montehermosan terrestrial horizon in the Monte Hermoso Formation of Argentina.
