Lipanorthis santalaurae

Taxonomy
Lipanorthis santalaurae was named by Benedetto and Carrasco (2002). Its type specimen is CEGH–UNC 20481a, a valve (External and internal molds of a dorsal valve), and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Abra de Santa Laura F-2, Sierra de Mojotoro, Floresta Formation, Jujuy, which is in a Tremadoc coastal sandstone/siltstone in the Floresta Formation of Argentina.

J. L. Benedetto and P. A. Carrasco 2002Transversely suboval shells with average length/width ratio 0.77 (dorsal valve) and 0.82 (ventral valve). Finely multicostellate ornament numbering 10–11 costellae per 2 mm. Ventral muscle field relatively large and narrow, rounded anteriorly, bounded by dental plates diverging anteriorly 40–50°. Notothyrial chamber extending anteriorly for about 13% of valve length, bearing a thick, ridge-like cardinal process.
