Gnamptorhynchos orbiculoidea
Taxonomy
Platystrophia orbiculoidea was named by Jin and Chatterton (1997) [= Platystrophia sp. Amsden 1974 p. 32, p. 6, figs. 5a–e.
= Platystrophia cf. P. daytonensis; Stott and Jin 2007 p. 453, figs. 6–10.]. Its type specimen is UA 10499 and is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Section AV4B, Level 112 m, Whittaker Fm., Avalanche Lake Area, Mackenzie Mts., which is in a Hirnantian open shallow subtidal limestone/shale in the Whittaker Formation of Canada.
It was recombined as Gnamptorhynchos orbiculoidea by Jin and Zhan (2000) and Jin and Harper (2024).
