Anomia psittacea was named by Gmelin (1790). It is extant.

It was recombined as Terebratula psitacea by Gmelin (1846); it was recombined as Rhynchonella psitacea by Reeve (1861); it was recombined as Hemithyris psitacea by Hatai (1940); it was recombined as Hemithyris psittacea by Cooper (1959); it was misspelled as Hemithyris psitacea by Satoru et al. (1966); it was recombined as Hemithiris psittacea by Hertlein and Grant IV (1944) and Zezina (2010).
