Taxonomy
Strophomena scofieldi was named by Winchell and Schuchert (1892).

It was recombined as Furcitella scofieldi by Cooper (1956) and Pope (1982).

J. K. Pope 1982Outline transversely subrectangular to semicircular. Profile unequally biconvex; ventral valve flattened to concave in central region. Anterior commissure weakly uniplicate to undulating. Costellae moderately fine, somewhat discontinuous; surface of valve irregularly wrinkled. Diductor muscle field oval to rhombic. Dorsal medial ridge relatively narrow; transmuscle ridges low, short, abruptly bent.
