Taxonomy
Parapithecinae was named by Schlosser (1911) [Subfamily Parapithecinae attributed to Schlosser, 1911 because of change in rank (from Parapithecidae)]. It was considered monophyletic by Beard et al. (2016).

It was reranked as the subfamily Parapithecinae by Beard et al. (2016) and Mattingly et al. (2021).

It was assigned to Parapithecidae by Beard et al. (2016) and Mattingly et al. (2021).
