Taxonomy
Mioheteromys subterior was named by Korth and Evander (2016). Its type specimen is USNM 56737, a tooth (left p4), and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Observation Quarry, which is in a Barstovian terrestrial horizon in Nebraska.
