Willomorichthys was named by Gardiner (1969) [Sepkoski's age data: C Vise Sepkoski's reference number: 1066]. It is not extant. It is the type genus of Willomorichthyidae.

It was assigned to Willomorichthyidae by Gardiner (1969); and to Palaeonisciformes by Sepkoski (2002).
