Taxonomy
Crypta (Spirocrypta) pileum was named by Gabb (1864). It is a 3D body fossil. It is the type species of Crypta (Spirocrypta).

It was recombined as Crypta pileum by Gabb (1864); it was recombined as Crepidula pileum by Stewart (1927), Hanna (1927), Turner (1938), Durham (1944) and Moore (1976); it was recombined as Crepidula (Spirocrypta) pileum by Schoellhamer et al. (1981); it was recombined as Spirocrypta pileum by Saul and Squires (2008).
