Caproberyx was named by Regan (1911) [Sepkoski's age data: K Turo K Sant Sepkoski's reference number: 915]. It is not extant. Its type is Beryx superbus.

It was assigned to Holocentridae by Patterson (1964); to Holocentroidei by Patterson (1993); and to Beryciformes by Sepkoski (2002).
