Taxonomy
Dinophoneus ingens was named by Broom (1923). Its type specimen is AMNH 5634 and is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Kookfontein, Victoria West, which is in a Wuchiapingian terrestrial siliciclastic in South Africa.
It was recombined as Jonkeria ingens by Boonstra (1936) and Boonstra (1969).
