Taxonomy
Hesperornis lumgairi was named by Aotsuka and Sato (2016). Its type specimen is CFDC B.78.02.07, a set of limb elements (left tarsometatarsus), and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Pembina Mountain region, CFDC site 7, which is in a Campanian marine shale/ash in the Pierre Shale Formation of Canada.
