Hemiaster wetherbyi was named by de Loriol (1887).

Synonyms

Hemiaster lacunosus was named by Slocom (1909).

It was synonymized subjectively with Hemiaster wetherbyi by Cooke (1953).
Hemiaster bexari was named by Clark and Twitchell (1915). It is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Bexar County outcrops, Person Fm., which is in an Albian platform/shelf-margin reef horizon in the Person Formation of Texas.

It was synonymized subjectively with Hemiaster wetherbyi by Cooke (1953).
Hemiaster benhurensis was named by Stephenson (1941). It is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is USGS 15543, Ben Hur, which is in a Maastrichtian marine claystone in the Neylandville Marl Formation of Texas.

It was synonymized subjectively with Hemiaster wetherbyi by Cooke (1953).
