Taxonomy
Dinilysia was named by Woodward (1901). Its type is Dinilysia patagonica. It is the type genus of Dinilysiidae.
It was assigned to Ophidia by Woodward (1901); to Alethinophidia by Rage (1977); to Dinilysiidae by Romer (1956), Bonaparte and Powell (1980), Rage (1984), McDowell (1987), Carroll (1988) and Caldwell and Albino (2003); to Serpentes by Wilson et al. (2010) and Longrich et al. (2012); and to Serpentes by Tchernov et al. (2000), Apestiguía and Zaher (2006) and Filippi and Garrido (2012).
