Dviniidae was named by Tatarinov (1968). It is not extant.

It was synonymized subjectively with Procynosuchidae by Hopson and Kitching (1972).

It was assigned to Cynodontia by Battail and Surkov (2000); and to Procynosuchia by Kemp (1982), Carroll (1988) and Tatarinov (2008).
