Taxonomy
Sylviornis was named by Poplin (1980). It is not extant. Its type is Sylviornis neocaledoniae. It is the type genus of Sylviornithidae.
It was assigned to Megapodidae by Carroll (1988); to Megapodiidae by Balouet and Olson (1989); and to Sylviornithidae by Worthy et al. (2016).
