Crusafontia was named by Henkel and Krebs (1969). Its type is Crusafontia cuencana.
It was assigned to Dryolestidae by Henkel and Krebs (1969), Kraus (1979), Prothero (1981), McKenna and Bell (1997) and Kielan-Jaworowska et al. (2004); and to Dryolestida by Cuenca-Bescos et al. (2011).
