Taxonomy
Dorcopsis was named by Schlegel and Müller (1845). It is extant. Its type is Didelphis brunii.

It was assigned to Macropodidae by McKenna and Bell (1997); and to Macropodinae by Flannery et al. (1989), Burk et al. (1998) and Wilson and Reeder (2005).
