Taxonomy
Didelphodus was named by Cope (1882). It is not extant. Its type is Deltatherium absarokae. It is the type genus of Didelphodontinae.

It was assigned to Proviverridae by Scott (1892) and Hay (1902); to Didelphodontinae by Hay (1930) and Van Valen (1967); to Cimolestidae by Lopatin (2006); and to Cimolestidae by Cope (1882), McKenna and Bell (1997) and Rose et al. (2012).
