Taxonomy

Pteropodidae was named by Gray (1821). It is extant.

It was assigned to Megachiroptera by Flower (1883), Flower and Lydekker (1891), Jaekel (1911) and Carroll (1988); to Chiroptera by Bonaparte (1850), Butler (1984), Nowak (1991) and Wilson and Reeder (2005); and to Yinpterochiroptera by Shi and Rabosky (2015).
