Taxonomy
Pelycomys was named by Galbreath (1953). It is not extant. Its type is Pelycomys rugosus.

It was assigned to Ischyromyidae by Johnson (1966); to Allomyidae by Galbreath (1953) and McKenna and Bell (1997); and to Prosciurinae by Korth et al. (2022).
