It was assigned to Cricetinae by Kurten and Anderson (1980); to Cricetidae by Baird (1857) and McKenna and Bell (1997); to Oryzomyini by D'Elía (2003); and to Sigmodontinae by Wilson and Reeder (2005) and Salles et al. (2006).
