Taxonomy
Ochotona was named by Link (1795). It is extant. Its type is Lepus dauricus. It is the type genus of Ochotonidae.

It was assigned to Ochotonidae by Link (1795), Hay (1902), Kurten and Anderson (1980) and McKenna and Bell (1997); and to Ochotoninae by Erbajeva et al. (2011).
