Taxonomy
Rhagatherium was named by Pictet (1857). It is not extant. Its type is Rhagatherium valdense.
It was assigned to Chalicotheriidae by Cope (1881); to Anthracotheriidae by Andrews (1906); to Haplobunodontidae by Hooker (1986), Carroll (1988) and McKenna and Bell (1997); and to Choeropotamidae by Sudre and Lecomte (2000) and Erfurt and Metais (2007).
