Taxonomy
Apatemys rodens was named by Troxell (1923). Its type specimen is Y.P.M. No. 12973, a mandible (left ramus of mandible with the basal part of I, the posterior portion of M2, and M3), and it is a 3D body fossil.

It was synonymized subjectively with Apatemys bellus by West (1973).
