Taxonomy
Hesperomys loxodon was named by Cope (1874). Its type specimen is U.S.N.M. No. 1204, a mandible (mand. dext. with m1-m2), and it is a 3D body fossil.
It was recombined as Eumys loxodon by Cope (1875) and Allen (1877); it was recombined as Peromyscus loxodon by Hay (1902); it was recombined as Copemys loxodon by Wood (1936), Clark et al. (1964), Lindsay (1972) and Dalquest et al. (1996).
