Galera was named by Gray (1843) [also said to be 1842; non Galera Browne 1789, which is an unavailable non-Linnean name according to Hershkovitz 1949 (p. 295) and Allen 1908]. It is extant.

It was assigned to Gulonina by Gray (1825).
