Taxonomy
Mus bursarius was named by Shaw (1800). It is extant.

It was recombined as Pseudostoma bursarius by Leidy (1860); it was recombined as Geomys bursarius by Hay (1902), Kurten and Anderson (1980) and Dalquest and Schultz (1992).

Synonyms
  • Geomys parvidens was named by Gidley (1922). Its type specimen is USNM 10492, a partial skull (The anterior portion of a skull car- rying the incisors and all the cheek teeth except the first and last of the right side), and it is a 3D body fossil.

    It was synonymized subjectively with Geomys bursarius by White and Downs (1961) and Kurten and Anderson (1980).
