Taxonomy
Ictops dakotensis was named by Leidy (1868). It is a 3D body fossil.

It was synonymized subjectively with Leptictis haydeni by Van Valen (1967); it was recombined as Leptictis dakotensis by Novacek (1976), Novacek (1982), Meehan and Martin (2010) and Korth et al. (2022).
