Microsyops elegans
Taxonomy
Limnotherium elegans was named by Marsh (1871). Its type specimen is YPM 11794, a mandible (fragment of left ramus with P4-M2), and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Grizzly Buttes, which is in a Bridgerian terrestrial horizon in the Bridger Formation of Wyoming.
It was recombined as Notharctus elegans by Osborn (1902); it was recombined as Microsyops elegans by Leidy (1873), Hay (1902), Wortman (1903), Hay (1930), Gazin (1958), Szalay (1969), Gazin (1976) and Gunnell (1989).
