Neofiber leonardi was named by Hibbard (1943). Its type specimen is KUMVP 6653, a tooth (m1 inf. dext.), and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Rezabek, which is in an Irvingtonian/Rancholabrean terrestrial horizon in Kansas.
