Taxonomy
Lepus princeps was named by Richardson (1828). It is extant.

It was synonymized subjectively with Ochotona alpina by Corbet (1978); it was recombined as Ochotona princeps by Kurten and Anderson (1980), Weston (1981) and Mead and Grady (1996).
