Taxonomy
Prosthennops oregonensis was named by Colbert (1938). Its type locality is Rattlesnake, which is in a Hemphillian terrestrial siltstone in the Rattlesnake Formation of Oregon.

It was recombined as Platygonus oregonensis by Wright (1998).
