Hesperomys floridanus was named by Chapman (1889). It is extant.
It was recombined as Peromyscus floridanus by Kurten and Anderson (1980), Rogers et al. (1984), Stangl and Baker (1984) and Stangl and Baker (1984); it was recombined as Podomys floridanus by Carleton (1980), Carleton (1989), Wilson and Reeder (1993) and Morgan and White (1995).
